Feast of San Bartolomeo
📅 Every year, on 24 August
On 24 August San Pietro in Amantea, a municipality of 534 inhabitants in the province of Cosenza, celebrates its patron San Bartolomeo.
The territory of this comune climbs from forty-six metres above the sea to six hundred and forty-four at its highest point: within a few kilometres it passes from the shore to the mountain. The village stands exactly halfway, at three hundred and seventy-four metres, set on the slope that faces the Tyrrhenian. The second part of its name ties it to Amantea, the coastal town below it, with which it shares a border.
All around, the ring of neighbouring comuni says clearly where it is: on one side Amantea and Belmonte Calabro, which lie on the sea; on the other Aiello Calabro, Lago and Serra d'Aiello, which lie inland. San Pietro is the hinge between the two rows, on the middle step of the Tyrrhenian coast of Cosenza, the one where villages stand high above the water without ever touching it.
