On 5 August, for sant'Emidio, and on the third Sunday of September, for Maria Santissima Addolorata (Our Lady of Sorrows), Placanica (Reggio Calabria) celebrates its patrons.

The patrons of Placanica are sant'Emidio (Saint Emygdius) and Maria Santissima Addolorata (Our Lady of Sorrows): sant'Emidio is celebrated on 5 August and Maria Santissima Addolorata on the third Sunday of September.

Placanica is today a destination for thousands of pilgrims who come from many places to venerate the Madonna dello Scoglio in the hamlet of Santa Domenica.
