The year 1877 brought a new identity to this Campania municipality, which had previously been registered under the name Massa di Somma. Currently home to around 18,100 residents, Cercola sits just 9 kilometers northeast of central Naples.
Sharing borders with the eastern edge of the regional capital, as well as nearby Volla and Pollena Trocchia, the town functions as a busy transit corridor within the metropolitan area, acting as a residential bridge toward the inland Vesuvius communities.
