On 25 October Porto Sant'Elpidio celebrates its patron Saint Crispin of Soissons; the town also preserves Villa Murri.
Porto Sant'Elpidio is a footwear capital: the Fermo-Macerata shoemaking district, which has one of its strongholds here, produces for the world's great fashion houses, and the factory outlets draw those pairing beach and shrewd shopping. The town is young and seaside-born, grown along the Adriatic railway.
The seafront runs for kilometres between historic pinewoods and beach clubs, the Fermo hills behind: Fermo with its Renaissance centre is a ten-minute climb away. New sandals and sand underfoot: here the pairing is literal.
