The patron of Lanciano is the Madonna del Ponte, whose wooden statue is venerated in the cathedral named after her; her feast is celebrated on 16 September, at the close of the "feste di Settembre" that open on 1 September with a volley of firecrackers and the raising of the civic and Marian flags.
On the night of 13 September, in the cathedral square, the arrival in Lanciano of the crowns blessed by the Vatican for the statue of the Madonna is re-enacted; the patronal feast is then woven together with the Settembre Lancianese, centred on the historical medieval re-enactment of the investiture of the Mastrogiurato, revived since 1981, in which the city's four historic quarters compete.
