Lentella

Province: Chieti · Region: Abruzzo · Population: 725 · Postal code: 66050

At Lentella they still tell that the old village stood down below, where the Treste runs into the Trigno, and that an invasion of ants drove the people up onto the hill; the ants, says the source itself, probably stand for the invasions of those centuries. On the arms, meanwhile, there is a pod of lentils.

In contrada Coccetta lie the ruins of Castello Manno, first named in 994, when a community of free men decided to make themselves a settlement and give it a territory. Half the castle went to the abbey of Casanova and the other half in 1217; the monks meant to keep their old and sick brothers there, while their real work was managing the drove road. At the end of the century the Templars came too. The place disappeared in the fourteenth century.
