The patron of Bernalda is Saint Bernardino of Siena, celebrated twice a year: on 20 May, his memorial, and on 23 August.
The fair tied to the patron has a certificate of birth. On 21 December 1819 King Ferdinand I of Bourbon signed the decree allowing Bernalda a yearly fair in honour of Saint Bernardino, from the 16th until midday on the 19th of May: four days that ended at noon, on the eve of the feast.
