Known to the Romans as Pesticium, this Basilicata town is famous today as the production site of Amaro Lucano, one of Italy's most recognizable herbal liqueurs.
With exactly 17,361 residents, Pisticci ranks as the second most populous municipality in the Matera province and the fourth in the entire region. Despite its relative size, the community remains firmly attached to its linguistic roots, referring to the town as Pestìzze in the local dialect.

From 15 to 18 August Pisticci celebrates Saint Roch: in 1656 the town was spared from the plague, and many saw the saint above its highest point, blessing it.
