Saint Roch, patron of Acquaro
📅 Every year, on 16 August
Acquaro celebrates Saint Roch on 16 August, in the Serre Regional Nature Park.
The name says water, and the territory keeps the promise: springs of oligomineral water rise at Monaco, Speranza, Due Fontane, Acquabianca and Corva, and from the last of these the water is carried as far as the hamlet of Limpidi. The village is crossed by the river Amello, a tributary of the Mesima, which divides it in two: the old part on one side, the new on the other. At Speranza, in the shade of tall pines and firs, there is the ground where people go to spend the day.
The comune takes in the hamlets of Limpidi and Piani, and Piani is itself made up of several scattered contrade. Acquaro lies in the upper valley of the Mesima and shared its mountain community with Arena, Dasà, Dinami, Gerocarne, Joppolo, Pizzoni, Sorianello, Soriano Calabro and Vazzano: the ring of villages that hold the slopes between the Serre and the river. Its arms and banner were granted in 1994.
