Argelato

Province: Bologna · Region: Emilia-Romagna · Population: 9,656 · Postal code: 40050

Argelato carries the name of the Argelati family, which held the territory and whose blazon passed wholesale into the municipal coat of arms. For more than a century, though, the place has lived mainly on goods in transit: between 1889 and 1955 it had a station on the Bologna-Pieve di Cento tramway, used by workers commuting to the Bolognese mills and for hauling away sugar beet, and today the hamlet of Funo holds the CenterGross, one of the largest wholesale trade cities in Europe, second in Italy only to the one at Nola. The cargo changed, the trade did not.

At Funo, inside a former Lamborghini plant, there is also the museum that Tonino Lamborghini dedicated to his father Ferruccio: founded in 1995 in the Ferrara area and moved here in 2014. The order of the rooms tells the career the right way round, because the first machine on show is the Carioca tractor of 1947, with which everything began, and only afterwards come the Miura, the Countach, the Espada and the little barchetta prepared for the Mille Miglia of 1948. At the far end wait a helicopter prototype and an offshore powerboat thirteen and a half metres long.
