The patron saint of San Lazzaro di Savena is Saint Lazarus, celebrated on 17 December in the church dedicated to him. Also linked to the saint is the Fiera di San Lazzaro, known in Bolognese dialect as «La Fira ed San Lazer»: officially established on 28 April 1830 but with much older origins, it began as a livestock and goods fair and remains today a traditional market that still enlivens the municipal territory.
The parish church also holds a painting of the Madonna della Cintura with the Christ Child, whose cult is honoured each year with a dedicated feast, established in thanks for a grace received by the inhabitants of Farneto during a cholera epidemic. In the hamlet of Farneto itself lies the Farneto Cave, while the municipal territory, also home to the Luigi Donini Museum of Prehistory, contains the Spipola Cave, among the most important speleological and prehistoric sites in Emilia-Romagna, along the course of the Idice stream.
