Roccabianca

Province: Parma · Region: Emilia-Romagna · Population: 3,069 · Postal code: 43010

The village used to be called Rezinoldo. In 1450 Pier Maria II de' Rossi began to build a rocca here, finished it in 1465 and two years later gave it to Bianca Pellegrini, the woman he loved: from her name would come the name of the village, although some derive it more simply from the white plaster that once covered the fortress.

In 1483, during the war of the Rossi, the people of Stagno and Tolarolo destroyed their own houses and shut themselves in the rocca, which fell after twenty days of siege. In the Arena del Sole theatre, on the other hand, nine statues by Ettore Ximenes have ended up: they are what is left of the monument to Giuseppe Verdi in Parma, which was destroyed.
