Feast of Saint Andrew
📅 Every year, on 30 November
On 30 November Attimis celebrates its patron Saint Andrew; the town preserves the Castello di Partistagno.
From here comes the name of the Attems family: their two castles, the upper and the lower, were abandoned after the earthquake of 1511, and at the foot of those ruins a villa with towers was built, which the Germans burned in September 1944. The castle already appears in a deed of 1106, drawn up here: «Actum in Atins».
Beside Italian people speak Friulian, and in the higher hamlets a Slovene of the Torre valleys which those who use it call po našen, «in our own way»: at the beginning of the twentieth century, up there, two hundred and fifty-two families out of two hundred and sixty-eight used it every day. The earthquake of 1976 brought down much of the mountain villages.
