Settefrati

Province: Frosinone · Region: Lazio · Population: 792 · Postal code: 03040

The village carries the name of the seven martyred brothers, sons of Saint Felicity, killed with their mother in the Roman persecutions. Of their old church only the doorway is left, built into a modern building that today is the town hall; the place is still called San Settefrati. The castle is documented from 983, in an emphyteusis granted by the abbot of Montecassino.

Ten kilometres from the village, in the middle of the park's woods, stands the sanctuary of Canneto, where people have been coming on pilgrimage for centuries: the night procession is on the twenty-second of August, and the fireworks are seen from the whole Valle di Comino. Close by, at the springs of the Melfa, in 1958 the remains of a temple of the goddess Mefitis came to light.
