Cicognolo has 955 inhabitants in the plain north-east of Cremona, on a territory of barely seven square kilometres. The monument of the village is the castle, of which only the origins are medieval: the fourteenth-century structure no longer exists, and what one sees today is the result of a neo-Gothic rebuilding of 1839, designed by the architect Luigi Voghera. It is a nineteenth-century castle that has put the fourteenth century on.
On the coat of arms, granted in 2001, there are four antique gold crowns on a red field, gemmed and rayed, set one above, two in the middle and one below. Between 1927 and 1955 Cicognolo had its stop on the Cremona-Asola tramway, run at the end by the Tramvie Provinciali Cremonesi; then the line closed, and today one goes to the county town by bus. The patronal feast falls on the second Sunday of October.
