Rivarolo del Re ed Uniti

Province: Cremona · Region: Lombardy · Population: 2,077 · Postal code: 26036

There are two Rivarolos, side by side, and they are not even in the same province: this one is in Cremona's, the other in Mantua's. The name is the same for both and comes from the Latin ripula, small bank, from the edge of a watercourse that has since vanished. To tell them apart it took centuries and nicknames: the neighbour was called Rivarolo Fuori, Rivarolo Outside, until 1907, while this one carries the King and the United along with it.

Its administrative history, on the other hand, is very short: until 1915 Rivarolo del Re was not a comune but a hamlet of Casalmaggiore, and its own administration was born in the middle of the First World War. The coat of arms came even later, exactly a century afterwards, in 2015. In the village there is the church of San Zeno the bishop, and all around the plain of the Casalasco, fields and farmsteads as far as the Po.
