The patron saint of Varenna is Saint George and the patronal feast is celebrated every year on 24 April.
Among the town's traditional observances, particular importance is given to the commemoration of the exodus of the inhabitants of the Isola Comacina and of their welcome in Varenna in the 12th century, re-enacted on the feast of Saint John the Baptist with symbolic events and popular celebrations.
