Risotto alla Milanese rice, saffron, beef marrow and butter, creamy and soft
Rice, saffron, beef marrow and butter: Milan's golden dish, tied by legend to a glassmaker of the Duomo in 1574.
Read more →Lecco only became a province in 1992, when the eastern half of the province of Como was cut loose and six municipalities were taken from Bergamo. Mergers and referendums have since brought it down to 84 municipalities on just over eight hundred square kilometres: the sixth smallest province in Italy, and one of the most densely populated. It follows the eastern arm of Lake Como, with Sondrio and Bergamo to the east and the Brianza area to the south.
The town of Lecco, home to fewer than 47,000 people, is where most visits start; from there the lake shore continues through Mandello del Lario to Colico. Inland to the south the mood changes completely: Merate, Missaglia, Casatenovo and Oggiono are working towns rather than lakeside ones. Nothing here is far from anything else.
