Offagna

Province: Ancona · Region: Marche · Population: 1,880 · Postal code: 60020

Offagna was one of the twenty or so castles Ancona kept around itself: the pope gave it to the city for good in 1445, and between 1454 and 1456 the Anconitans built the rocca that still stands, square, with a corner tower and a keep in the middle, to hold the line of the Aspio.

In a village of two thousand people there are three museums: one of the rocca, one of natural science, and the museum of the Liberation of Ancona, with the weapons and the photographs of the Allied entry into the city. In the villa outside the walls there are decorations by Niccolò Pomarancio. Every year the village holds its medieval festival.
