Saint Anthony of Padua and the Pamparrina Minervinese
📅 Every year, from 11 to 13 June
Minervino di Lecce celebrates Saint Anthony of Padua from 11 to 13 June.
Until 1650 Minervino was not one village but sixteen: sixteen borghi of fifty to a hundred people each, which were really farmsteads. The largest was called Borgo Minervino and ran from piazza San Pietro to the mother church, with a hundred and fifty inhabitants; another was called Borgo Giudecca.
In the fields towards Uggiano stands the dolmen Li Scusi, the first found and catalogued in Puglia: Maggiulli recognised it in 1879. The covering slab, two and a half metres by three metres eighty, rests on eight uprights, and one of the eight is not a stone carried there but the rock that was already cropping out.
