The patron saint of Mottola is Saint Thomas Becket, celebrated on 29 December.
Co-patroness of the town is the Madonna del Carmine, whose festivities are held on 15 and 16 July with processions and fireworks. On 12 and 13 June, festivities in honour of Saint Anthony of Padua are instead celebrated, with masses and religious processions, while on 12 and 13 October the Madonna del Rosario is celebrated. The town holds the famous rock-hewn churches of San Nicola and San Gregorio, as well as the Petruscio Rock Village.
