Elini

Province: Nuoro · Region: Sardinia · Population: 550 · Postal code: 08040

The comune has existed since 1958: before that Elini was administered by Ilbono, the village next door. It stands at four hundred and seventy-two metres, on the road from Ilbono to Arzana, and people have lived here since the neolithic, as the remains scattered over the territory show.

The station is in the middle of the village, on the railway from Mandas to Arbatax: since 1997 no scheduled trains pass, only the Trenino Verde, and almost only in summer. In the middle ages Elini belonged to the judicate of Cagliari; then the Pisans, then the Aragonese, who put it in the county of Quirra, granted in fief in 1363 to Berengario Carroz. Redemption from the fief came in 1839.
