The patron of Calamonaci is Saint Vincent Ferrer, celebrated on 5 April; the August festival takes place on the first weekend of the month, or the second if the Sunday falls near Ferragosto, and the people have an immense devotion to the Dominican saint.
The celebrations have two high points: the solemn procession of Saint Vincent Ferrer, dressed in vestments covered with precious ex-votos offered by the faithful, on the early evening of Sunday along the «giru di li santi», and the «rigattiati» in honour of Saint John the Baptist and Saint Michael the Archangel, from Friday evening to Sunday evening, a running procession that the two confraternities, the «sangiuvannara» and the «sammichilara», make their saints perform on decorated floats along corso Garibaldi, with two tarantella-rhythm marches and continuous fireworks. Since the early 1960s the rivalry between the confraternities has shifted to the final fireworks displays.
