In 1918, Villafranca Sicula saw the birth of Salvatore Pappalardo, who would later serve as the prominent archbishop of Palermo. This small Sicilian municipality covers an area of 17.7 square kilometres in the province of Agrigento.
Home to 1,426 residents, the town sits roughly 40 kilometres northwest of Agrigento and 60 kilometres south of Palermo. It shares its borders with neighboring Burgio, Calamonaci, Caltabellotta, and Lucca Sicula.
