From here downstream the Adige was navigable, and in twelfth-century documents there is also a ferry crossing the river: the village long lived on that position. The name is found written Andrian as early as 1186, on a parchment in the archive of the Gries convent; it comes either from a Roman personal name or from antrum, the small round valley.

Above the village, sheer over a ravine, stand the ruins of Festenstein, a castle first named in 1220. Andriano had been a comune of its own for more than a hundred years when a decree of 1928 merged it into Nalles; it took itself back in 1953. Today nine people out of ten here have German as their first language.
