The patrons of Monte Argentario are Saint Erasmus of Formia, venerated in the Church of Sant'Erasmo in Porto Ercole, and Saint Stephen Protomartyr, celebrated on 3 August in Porto Santo Stefano.
Since the early 1930s, on Easter morning, Porto Santo Stefano has held the Procession of the Risen Christ, deeply felt by the population: the statue of Christ is carried over the port in memory of fishermen and sailors. Since 1937, every 15 August (excluding war years), the Palio Marinaro dell'Argentario has taken place, one of the longest rowing races in the world, contested among the town's four districts. In June, for Saint Erasmus's patronal feast in Porto Ercole, a night procession of decorated boats is held, accompanied since 1978 by a rowing palio in the harbour. The town also holds the Church of San Rocco and Forte Filippo.
