On 26 May Tursi holds its patronal feast for Saint Philip Neri. The best known, though, is that of the Madonna of Anglona, which falls every 8 September: on the Sunday after Easter the 18th-century statue of the Madonna is carried on shoulders from the sanctuary of Anglona into town, along a route of several kilometres.
The local calendar has two more heartfelt dates: on 16 August people go up to the convent for the service and the procession around it, and on the evening of 18 March branches are burned in great bonfires — what they call here u umnnàrie, the bonfire of Saint Joseph.
