Andali

Province: Catanzaro · Region: Calabria · Population: 795 · Postal code: 88050

The village was called Villa Aragona, after the duke of Montalto who founded it in the mid sixteenth century for the Albanians who had come to Calabria. In a treasurer's account of 1579 it is taxed for twelve Albanian hearths, which paid half the tax of the others.

Of Arbëresh only a few words remain today, in the mouths of a few, and the Byzantine rite ended long ago. The comune has twice lost a piece of itself: Cerva in 1850 and Botricello in 1957, which was the part that gave it the sea. From 1961 to today the population has fallen to a third. In 2019 a wind farm was put up on the hills.

Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary

📅 Every year, on 7 October
