Saint Theodore, patron of Satriano
📅 Every year, on 9 November
Satriano celebrates Saint Theodore on 9 November.
Calabria narrows to an isthmus between the Gulf of Sant'Eufemia on the Tyrrhenian side and the Gulf of Squillace on the Ionian, and the province of Catanzaro covers that neck of land from one sea to the other. Its 80 municipalities run from the two coastlines up into the Apennine interior, and today's borders largely follow those of Calabria Ulteriore Seconda, the Bourbon district whose coat of arms the province still carries.
Catanzaro, which is also the seat of the regional government, and Lamezia Terme on the Tyrrhenian side are the two main towns and the easiest way in. From there the choice is the Ionian coast at Soverato and Sellia Marina, or inland towns of about six thousand people like Girifalco and Chiaravalle Centrale. Crossing from one sea to the other in a day is routine.
