The Madonna del Carmine and the Fontana dei Tre Canali
📅 Every year, on the third Sunday of July
Parenti celebrates the Madonna del Carmine on the third Sunday of July, in the church dedicated to her.
Parenti stands on the left bank of the Savuto, at the foot of Monte Brutto, in a landscape of chestnut and oak. The municipality is a very steep slice of mountain: its territory runs from six hundred and fifty-four metres at the lowest point to one thousand four hundred and fifty-five at the summit, while the square where the mother church stands lies at seven hundred and ninety-eight. Eight hundred metres of difference inside a single municipal boundary mean that the same territory holds both high pasture and the cultivated fields of the valley floor.
The economy is agricultural, and the crop that matters most is the potato: it is the village's chief source of income, favoured by cool soils and by an altitude the plains do not have. Beside farming there is an industry that also depends on the mountain: at Bocca di Piazza stands the plant that bottles Fontenoce water, that is, the very water coming down from these slopes. The rest is done by the woods, which cover a good part of the upper portion of the territory.
