From the village, by a chance of the ground, you look straight into a gap in the coastal range: you see a stretch of the Tyrrhenian and, when the air is clear, the cone of Stromboli. The name says where it stands: at the foot of Villanova, the older village above it. The hamlet of Pittarella was known round about for its magare, the fortune-tellers.
Pedivigliano was born in the sixteenth century from settlers who came from the villages nearby; Borboruso, the other hamlet, is of the nineteenth. The municipality was created by Joachim Murat, by a decree of 1811; in 1928 it was merged with Scigliano, which stands on the other side of the valley, and since 1937 it has been a municipality again. In autumn mushrooms and chestnuts are worked, and in every house the pig is killed.
