The patron saints of San Giovanni in Fiore are Saint John the Baptist and Saint Francis Xavier: the festivities last three days and culminate on 24 June with a solemn procession.
The town is linked to the figure of Abbot Joachim of Fiore, a 12th-century exegete monk, who founded the Florensian Abbey and its related monastic order here. In February, Carnival is celebrated with distinctive musical performances called «Frassie», which satirically re-enact the year's most notable events in the town. The town also holds Monte Carlomagno and the Church of the Ecce Homo.
