Feast of Saint Nicholas of Bari
📅 Every year, on 6 December
On 6 December Candidoni celebrates its patron Saint Nicholas of Bari; the town is also home to a religious institute of women.
The name comes from the ancient Greek Anthedòn, and in Calabrian the village is Candiduni. Of monuments its history has left only one, the castle of Borrello; for the rest there are fields — wine, oil and citrus — on the border between the Reggio area and the Vibonese.
The coat of arms, granted in 1982, is more eloquent than any chronicle: on a silver ground a black eagle with lowered wings, crowned in gold in the antique fashion, gripping four red thunderbolts in its talons. In a village of a few hundred people there is also a women's religious institute, the Daughters of Saint Veronica Missionaries of the Holy Face, and a single parish for the whole comune, dedicated to Saint Nicholas.
