The patron of Pizzo is Saint George, celebrated on 23 April. His church is the mother church in the middle of the town: a Baroque building raised in 1632, with a marble portal by the sculptor Fontana and a statue of the Baptist attributed to Pietro Bernini.
In that same church lies the tomb of Joachim Murat, king of Naples and Napoleon's brother-in-law. He was held prisoner in the Aragonese fort on the headland, tried in the castle's main hall and shot on 13 October 1815; since then that castle has been called Castello Murat, and it houses the provincial Murat museum.
