For a hundred and forty years the village was called San Nazzaro Calvi: a single municipality with Calvi, from 29 February 1808. In 1949 the two names swapped places and the municipality became Calvi San Nazzaro; nine years later, in 1958, a decree split it in two, and each of the villages took back its own name.
What is left to San Nazzaro is a little more than two square kilometres, on the border with the Avellino province: one of the smallest municipalities in Campania. In the ground you find fossil shells tens of millions of years old and amphorae of Samnite and Roman date; of the Middle Ages there remain a castle and a stone cross.
