Just outside the town opens the grotto of San Michele, full of stalactites and stalagmites: it lies at a hundred and twenty metres of altitude and is forty-four metres long. It has been used for worship since the Middle Ages, and on its rock it keeps frescoes of the end of the fifteenth century or the first years of the sixteenth — a Madonna and Child between saint Michael and another saint — which are attributed to Antonio Solario, the painter they called lo Zingaro, the Gypsy. A painting with an author's name, inside a cave: it is the thing to go and see at Camigliano, and it also explains why these mountains, full of hollows, were for centuries the place where people went to pray.

The town lies at eighty metres, in a valley closed by hills and dominated to the north by Monte Maggiore. The houses are nearly all of two floors and each has its little vegetable garden beside it; the country around is planted with peach trees, olives and vines. The settlement is of ancient origin and was held in fief by the Fieramosca. In the hamlet of Leporano, which is a medieval borgo of about a hundred people, there is the sanctuary dedicated to the Madonna, and the patronal feast falls on the second Sunday of October.
