Acerra celebrates Saint Cuono and his son on 29 May; the town, which tradition says was the birthplace of the Pulcinella mask, preserves an ancient church dedicated to the patron dating from the 11th century, alongside the remains of ancient Suessula.

The patron saints of Acerra are Saint Cuono and his son, celebrated on 29 May: an ancient town church dating from the 11th century is dedicated to the saint. Acerra's duomo, with its Neoclassical facade, overlooks the square of the same name, long the heart of the old town, together with the main streets now named after two prominent Acerra-born prelates, Cardinal Giuseppe Casoria and Archbishop Gennaro Verolino.

The municipal territory includes the archaeological site of Suessula, an ancient Campanian city of Oscan and Etruscan origin founded in the 9th century BC, whose finds are gathered in the Museum of Archaeology and History of the Territory of Acerra and Suessula, opened in 2023 in the Castello dei Conti. According to tradition, recorded in a 16th-century text and a painting attributed to Ludovico Carracci, Acerra was the birthplace of the famous Pulcinella mask, later adopted by the Neapolitans: the same castle houses one of the richest museums dedicated to the mask, marked by a strong multimedia character and impromptu performances involving visitors, as well as a library specialising in folklore and peasant culture.
