The patron saint of Pomigliano d'Arco is Saint Felix, celebrated on 14 January: as Christianity spread, the first inhabitants gathered around a church dedicated to him, encircling the town with walls and bastions still visible in the late 18th century. Outside this wall circuit another church later arose, that of the Holy Cross, entrusted to the Greek fathers of Saint Basil, around which a second residential cluster formed, the borough of Santa Croce.
The church of San Felice in Pincis, the town's main place of worship, stands in the old town on the main street: inside it holds notable works, including the oldest fresco, dating from the 16th century, and a 15th-century bell tower, built of tuff and local stone, located behind the main dome. In the 20th century Pomigliano d'Arco became an important centre of the Italian aeronautical industry, thanks to Alfa Romeo Avio, whose plant, among the largest and most modern in Europe when built, was destroyed by two bombing raids during the Second World War and rebuilt only in 1952.
