Casoria celebrates Saint Maurus the Abbot twice a year: on 15 January, with a procession of his statue through the town, and on the second Sunday of July, with the traditional «burning of the bell tower» of the basilica named after him.

The patron saint of Casoria is Saint Maurus the Abbot, whose relics are kept in the basilica dedicated to him, the town's main place of worship: rebuilt in Baroque style from 1606 on the site of an old chapel, it holds a fine gold-leaf coffered ceiling from the second half of the 17th century and several canvases by Domenico Antonio Vaccaro, including a Madonna and Child with Saints Maurus and Januarius. The patron saint's feast falls twice a year: on 15 January, with a solemn procession of the statue through the town's streets, and on the second Sunday of July, when the traditional «burning of the bell tower» is renewed.

According to popular tradition, not historically confirmed but supported by donation deeds later revealed to be forgeries, Casoria would coincide with the «territorium gentianum» granted in 529 by Saint Maurus's father to Master Benedict of Nursia; more plausibly, the saint's cult was introduced or reinvigorated around the 11th century by the Neapolitan Benedictine monastery of San Gregorio Armeno. The town was also the birthplace of Saint Ludovico da Casoria, whose birth house can still be visited today.
