The patron saint of Nocera Inferiore is Saint Priscus, who lived in the 3rd century in Nuceria Alfaterna, the town's ancient name: he was the town's first bishop and is today patron of both Nocera Inferiore and the whole diocese. His feast falls on 9 May and is marked by special celebrations, deeply felt above all in the Vescovado district, where the saint is the most venerated among the many local patrons.
Each district of Nocera Inferiore in fact preserves its own specific devotion: in the area of the three casali, Saint Lucy and Saint Agnellus are venerated, in Casolla Saint Rita, and in Cicalesi Saint John the Baptist. Since July 2015, after thirty years' interruption, civic celebrations in honour of Saint Anne have also returned, while the town preserves a widespread Franciscan presence, attested by three convents, including that of the Capuchins of Sant'Andrea. Also deeply felt is the feast of the Assumption of Mary, celebrated in the hamlet of Materdomini di Nocera Superiore, where altars dedicated to the Assumed Virgin are still set up in courtyards today.
