The patron saint of Ottaviano is Saint Michael the Archangel, celebrated on 8 May: it is one of the most important feasts in the entire Vesuvius area, so much so that it was included in the Milan Expo 2015 circuit. Deeply felt and eagerly awaited by the people of Ottaviano, it is held without interruption every year and continues for days, drawing thousands of people thanks to the illuminations and the artists invited for the occasion.
On 3 May, instead, the Procession of the Holy Cross is held: from the collegiate church of San Michele, where the precious relics are kept, the procession winds through the alleys of the old town, stopping in front of a small shrine set beneath an arch. The town also holds the Medici Castle and extends into the Vesuvius National Park.
