Ziano Piacentino

Province: Piacenza · Region: Emilia-Romagna · Population: 2,635 · Postal code: 29010

In 1271 pope Gregory X chose Ziano as neutral ground for a meeting between the comune of Piacenza, represented by a cardinal who was his own nephew, and Ubertino Landi, who spoke for the Ghibellines. Landi signed nothing and was excommunicated. The castrum already appears in a will of 1029, kept at Bobbio.

The town hall has moved twice: it was at Vicobarone until 1823, then at Vicomarino, and from 1888 at Ziano, which thus gave the comune its name; «Piacentino» was added in 1928. In 2016 there was a vote on merging with Borgonovo: at Borgonovo the yes won, here the no, and the merger stopped there.
