The patron of Rolo is Saint Zeno, with co-patron Saint Vincenza, celebrated on the third Sunday of June and the following Monday in the Church of San Zenone.
The town was an important centre of cabinetmaking, reaching its peak in the 18th century: the sacristy of Reggio Emilia's cathedral dates from that period too, and a table made in Rolo still belongs to the descendants of Giacomo Leopardi. Rolo still produces the traditional rice cake, the Torta di riso. The territory includes the protected areas of Siepi e Canali di Resega-Foresto and Valle delle Bruciate e Tresinaro.
