Feast of Saint Blaise
📅 Every year, on 3 February
On 3 February Colloredo di Monte Albano celebrates its patron Saint Blaise; the Castello di Colloredo and the Castello di Caporiacco stand in the municipality.
In the castle of Colloredo, begun in 1302, Ippolito Nievo lived and wrote: here he made Le confessioni di un italiano, and the kitchen described in the novel is the castle's own. The Nievo had come into the place by a marriage, like many other families: the Colloredo Mels married into half of Friuli.
A piece of the east wing was painted red, and not for beauty: it was called the Casa Rossa and it served to draw attacks to that spot, to spare the rest of the complex. The earthquake of 1976 brought down almost everything, this castle, the one at Mels, the one at Caporiacco, the church of Ognissanti, and since then it has been rebuilt: Caporiacco stone by stone, at the wish of a descendant, and the tower of Mels from 1994.
