Feast of Saints Vitus, Modestus and Crescentia
📅 Every year, on 15 June
On 15 June San Vito di Fagagna, a municipality of 1,682 inhabitants in the province of Udine, celebrates its patrons Saint Vitus, Saint Modestus and Saint Crescentia.
The village appears for the first time in 1236, written «in villa S. Viti di Pagania»: the second half of the name is Fagagna, the place it has always been tied to. In the thirteenth century it depended on the lords of Villalta for justice and on the abbey of Sesto for the church; after 1420 it passed under the Venetian lieutenant who sat at Udine.
In 1927 the fascist reform wiped it out and attached it to Fagagna itself; it became a comune again in 1947, with the hamlets of Ruscletto and Silvella. In the nineteen-seventies, digging, the traces of a Roman road came to light: from its direction it might be the Concordia-Noricum, which led from the Adriatic over the Alps.
