The patron of Pontida is Saint James the Greater, celebrated on 25 July.
The town is known throughout Italy for its abbey, the Abbazia di Pontida, where in 1167 the cities of the Lombard League gathered to swear their alliance against Frederick Barbarossa. The town also holds the Shrine of the Beata Vergine Addolorata di Caderizzi and overlooks Monte Canto and the Parco Adda Nord.
