Saint Martin, patron of the Medolago Albani Palace
📅 Every year, on 11 November
Carvico celebrates Saint Martin on 11 November, in the church dedicated to him.
Nothing is left of the castle of Carvico, not even the exact spot where it stood. It belonged to the Benaglio, a powerful family, and it demanded from the people of the village a kind of annuity; during the wars against Milan it was occupied by Amadeus IV of Savoy. The name Carvico appears in the documents from 941, while the first deed that really speaks of the village is of 1127: one Attone of Calusco makes over some of his property to the church of Sant'Alessandro in Bergamo.
On the hills, where the boundaries of three comuni meet, lies the archaeological site of San Tomè: a place of worship of the seventh century, found only in the nineteen-eighties. The village has produced two men of learning: Ottavio Bolgeni, a parish priest who wrote on theology and law and was the teacher of Lorenzo Mascheroni, and don Michelangelo Ambrosioni, born here in 1862, who founded the natural history museum of Merate, which bears his name. At Christmas the alpine veterans build a nativity hut made only of salvaged materials, different every year.
