Saints Firmus and Rusticus, patrons of Castel del Ciacio
📅 Every year, on 9 August
Presezzo celebrates Saints Firmus and Rusticus on 9 August, in the church dedicated to them.
On the coat of arms of Presezzo there are the letters S.P.Q.R., and they are there to recall that the village began as a praesidium, a Roman garrison post; the name changed only in 1263. Beside them stand a ring of walls with two battlemented towers, that is the castle of which few remains are left, and a rampant goat, taken from the arms of the noble Facheris of Caversegno — the other, older comune, which in the thirteenth century joined Presezzo to form the territory of today.
Palazzo Furietti-Carrara, which faces onto the main street, held a cycle of frescoes by Gian Paolo Cavagna. They were under the protection of the ministry, which was not enough: between 1939 and 1942 the last owners had them stripped from the walls, and since then nobody knows where they went. Of those frescoes only a few black and white photographs remain. Presezzo, on the other hand, was the birthplace of Giacomo David, a tenor who became the point of reference for a whole Bergamo school of singing.
