Maccastorna

Province: Lodi · Region: Lombardy · Population: 60 · Postal code: 26843

In 1448 Francesco Sforza had several boats brought here from Cremona on great carts: they were to be put together into a bridge over the Adda, right here. A real bridge came only in 1980, and it links the village to the Cremona bank. Maccastorna is the smallest comune in the province of Lodi, and the least populous of all the Italian comuni that lie on the plain.

In 2026 this village of a few dozen people found itself at the top of the ranking of the richest comuni in Italy, with an average income of over seventy-two thousand euros: it depends almost entirely on the sale, in 2024, of a share in a food company by the family that also owns the castle. The castle, of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, is still standing; in the municipal arms, instead, there is a ruined one.
