Feast of San Riccardo Pampuri
📅 Every year, on 1 May
On 1 May Trivolzio, a municipality of 2,036 inhabitants in the province of Pavia, celebrates its patron San Riccardo Pampuri.
Trivolzio is a village that gave its name to one of the great families of Milan: the local lords took their name from the place — in the twelfth century it is Trivulcium — and from here come the Trivulzio, the house of Gian Giacomo. The settlement was the seat of an old pieve of the diocese of Pavia, on which the nearby places depended, Marcignago and Bereguardo among them; the fief later passed to the Grugni and, by marriage, to the counts Rusca, who left the palazzo behind.
Here, on 2 August 1897, Erminio Filippo Pampuri was also born. He worked as a country doctor, and in 1924, when joining the fascist syndicate of doctors became standard practice, he resigned, writing that one could be a patriot in another party too and that he did not wish to give up his freedom for any material interest. In 1927 he entered the Fatebenefratelli as friar Riccardo, and he died in Milan in 1930, at thirty-two. John Paul II proclaimed him a saint in 1989.
